A dental team in Quedgely have successfully completed a strenuous eight-kilometre obstacle course to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.
Nine dedicated ladies from the team at St James Dental completed the Devil Mud Run, an eight-kilometre obstacle course over rugged terrain, raising over £580 for Maggie’s, a UK-based cancer support charity.
“Taking part in the run was a big challenge for all of us. It had been raining all night before the race, meaning there was slippery mud around the course, and the day of the race was extremely cold. At the start line the task seemed enormous, but we enjoyed ourselves so much that it felt like we made it to the finish in no time!
“The course took us through woods, over hills and open countryside, with plenty of mud and water thrown in for good measure! The course featured 31 obstacles, including ‘Satan’s Steps’, ‘The Ice Dip’ and ‘Slippery Slope’, all of which added new levels of difficulty to the run.”
The money raised will go to supporting Maggie’s, a UK-based charity which offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer, as well as their family and friends. Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie’s centres provide visitors with information and practical support for living with cancer.
“Everyone you talk to has been affected by cancer in some way, and the team all feel this charity offers an amazing service to help support the people who need it most. The Cheltenham centre is very well equipped and offers a variety of classes, workshops and services to provide practical, emotional and social support.
“We’re all extremely thankful to everyone who contributed to our amazing total for Maggie’s. We know the charity is extremely grateful for the funding they have received, and that the money raised will really make a difference to the families and individuals who use their services.”
