In 2017 it became apparent that the practice was becoming ever busier and if we were to continue to provide for our increasing local population the practice would need to grow and adapt. Plans were drawn up and we eventually received planning permission but as we were hoping to use a European prefabricated builder (to speed the build through) our plans got rather blown off course by Brexit. Thereafter the pandemic knocked us back again as it was our absolute focus to return to seeing our patients routinely.
We have picked up the expansion plans again with local Architects Roberts Limbrick (Gloucester) and were delighted to appoint The Barnwood Group as our builders. As you can imagine we are hugely excited to announce that construction work will commence on 8th August.
There will be quite considerable changes to the outside of St.James over the coming 40 weeks with construction due to finish early in June 2023. What will not be altered in any way is our ability to honour our commitment to every appointment and patient.
You will have to navigate past site offices and security fencing but our main entrance will remain open and welcoming as ever. We will ensure that those patients with special requirements will not be disadvantaged in any way.
Expanding the practice will add four more treatment rooms whilst allowing us the opportunity to upgrade our staff facilities ensuring that we care for them to the same high standards we offer you our patient. On completion we will be increasing our capacity to offer the very latest advances in dental care by appointing a further two dentists and a hygienist.
Regardless of how large we become we remain a family practice to our core and this expansion will allow us to care for that ever increasing local population. As a practice we will remain committed to the highest possible standards of materials, appointment lengths and care for every patient. Our dentists and staff continue to work on advancing their knowledge, experience and professional qualifications so as to be able to provide the very latest techniques and advances in dentistry.
An essential part of the build in such a difficult to access location is Health & Safety. To ensure the safety of all concerned, the footpath running from the kissing gate to the front of the practice will be closed for the duration of the build. It was to minimise this inconvenience to Quedgeley residents that we originally considered a prefabricated build.
The Barnwood Group have been made aware of the disruption to local residents and have assured me that they will do all they can to reopen the footpath as soon as possible. Car parking is going to be restricted and difficult during the construction period so we would ask all those patients who can walk, cycle or park off site for the duration to help in every way they can. We thank you for your patience and forbearance in this matter.
If you have questions about your up and coming appointments please do not hesitate to be in touch with Jaime our patient coordinator 01452 727665 or [email protected]
The building was handed over on 22nd March in what’s call a Topping out ceremony. (The term ‘topping out’ refers to the installation of the final piece of structure, or the completion of the roof on a building, bridge or other large construction. It signifies that the structure has reached its maximum height (not that the project has reached completion).
